Vedder River Steelhead – The Seals Ate Them
Today we look at the declining number of Steelhead, particularly in the Vedder river, in Chiiliwack B.C., Canada, and why they are decreasing.
The sea lions, and also harbour seals, are responsible for this, and they must be stopped.
Their population has increased significantly since the 80’s, and simultaneously, salmon and steelhead are disappearing.
If a seal boom is contributing to the further decline of already-threatened salmon and steelhead populations in Puget Sound, we need to answer more questions to address the problem. How many seals should there be? What should they be eating? Who’s eating them, or isn’t eating them? Are there factors that make it easier for these predators to hunt salmon?

The Vedder River in Chilliwack is the most productive winter steelhead fishery around Vancouver but it is also a very challenging river to fish. This video is a review of my 2021 Vedder River winter steelhead fishing season and a look at the volunteer steelhead broodstock capture program for the hatchery.

Chilliwack Vedder River. Bike trail is easy, mostly flat. right before the bike trail entrance, there is a play area for kids to enjoy. water, mountain views, and, trees everywhere. what an experience! we’ll for sure comeback for another bike ride. check it out guys and fall in love with this beautiful place. Oh by the way, there’s no Bear in this video, if anything, I don’t want to see one in the wild while biking :).
